A MULTI DIMENTIONAL EXPERIENCE
BY JOAN COSTES AND ADRIEN DE MAUBLANC

" SEE THE MUSIC "

- A SERIE OF INSTALLATIONS -

If music is time and light is space, you can paint the space time using both these brushes.
Then you allow the audience to enter the painting » says Adrien explaning on Masomenos serie of audio visual installation. Each element of the partition (notes, harmonies, tempos, rythms), are translated into light (colours, intensity, order), to create a synaesthetic experience from the fusion of musical and visual perception. But if the technology is appliable to any partition, the way the painting is created is really where the artistic sensibility of Masomenos appears. The color hue, the 3d object, the dynamic of each attributes makes the result unique an specific to the artists elaborating it. Further more the scenes are first created as a 3D scenes. So the experince also proposes a dialogue between the scene that can be looked at, like a moovie on a screen, and the space that the specataor become part of,entering the ecosystem of that same scene transposed in another environement.  Most of the time, Masomenos will choose to create a dialogue between urban/Industrial, and natural scapes depending on where the installation is set.

" L.E.O CONCERT "

- INTERACTIV VISUALS FOR A CONCERT -

After several random discussions on the perception they had of the relationship between visuals and music, Kate Simko encouraged Adrien to participate in her London Electronic Orchestra Project that was to be a graduation show for the London Royal College of Music. The idea was to create a visual surrounding for the concert night in Britten Theatre. A symphonic orchestra would play the electronic music of Masomenos Coco Classico. This proposal was well timed as Adrien had just spent the year working and developing the Color Piano installation with the help of their ingeneer intern Aurelien Krieger. As they began to work on the scenes, they strove to create a different visual style than the usual masomenos tripped/pop/fun aesthetic. They’ve built scenes in C4D in which all object were linked to an instrument group that would light up and give life to the scene.  All scenes would have a different light story depending on the piece of music that was being played, and how they chose to assign it. These are all technical words, but the result was simply poetic and intuitive. On March 12th, 2014, the orchestra played and your eyes could follow the music and it was great to watch!

M7TH "

- VIRTUAL INSTALLATION -

M7TH is a virtual see the music installation that paints in light the music of Masomenos techno album. Each track is  located in a different imaginary  industrial space and laid out with different objects that lights up the room as the partition plays, redefiyng the whole space. All scenes were invented by Adrien as the studio was already located in the works of Hotel Costes.  Only afterward they were to realize how inspirational it was to walk by the construction site everyday to access the studio and how It had led them to export their virtual reality into the actual spaces for a special happening.

" COLOR PIANO "

-Public Interactiv Audiovisual Insatallation -

The Masomenos Lab, which is located rue du Mont-Thabor in Paris, has been a playground for Masomenos experimentation with lights, video, digital and interactive art. They placed a keyboard outside the window of the showroom with some buttons for random people to interact with the installations inside. One could also peep into the shop. At that time, the engineer Aurelien Krieger helped Masomenos to create a program  to light up the The Color Piano that was displayed outside the shop inside the teeth of giant blue monster.  This interactive and artistic installation was a very fun didactical and way to understand the relationship between sound and light, understanding intuitivly their behaviour as frequencies.
